IHF and EBU join forces for the 2008 Olympic Qualification Tournaments: Free broadband streaming of all matches2008-03-12

For the first time the International Handball Federation joins forces with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which is the largest association of national broadcasters in the World. IHF has allocated all Electronic Media Rights of the 2008 Olympic Qualification Tournaments to the EBU, which will exploit them worldwide.
The Olympic Qualification Tournaments for the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in Beijing will take place on two weekends in six different locations around Europe. The Women (three tournaments with four teams each) will compete from 28-30 March in Bucharest/Romania, Leipzig/Germany and Nimes/France while the Men's tournaments (three tournaments with four teams each) will take place from 30 May to 01 June in Paris/France, Wroclaw/Poland and Zadar/Croatia.
The EBU will be responsible for high quality Television production of the altogether 36 matches, which will be made available to broadcasters around the world. The parties furthermore envisage to make the matches available on the IHF website,
www.ihf.info, for streaming via broadband connections. This service will be free of charge for all Handball fans. The cooperation between IHF and EBU's is thus setting a landmark in the development of Handball.

Handball is one of the most popular Olympic sports and attracts millions of spectators and TV audience each year.
The EBU has 75 active members in 56 countries in and around Europe as well as 46 associate members around the world. Member broadcasters reach a weekly audience of 650 millions. The EBU has offices in all continents and runs a worldwide satellite distribution network. Among the EBU partners in sports are many of the leading international associations like IOC, FIFA, IAAF, FIS , FINA, UCI and IBU.
